One Purr Away was created by Dr. Julia Dunn. The practice is based in West Seattle.
Dr. Julia Dunn holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine (2011) and is a licensed veterinarian in the State of Washington.
Knowing cats were her passion, she was first drawn to New York City for its exceptionally large concentration of urban cat owners following her graduation from Veterinary School. Between 2011 and 2012 she completed a year-long clinical internship with BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Manhattan. This was followed by 3 years of working in emergency practice (ER) in the Bay Area (Sage Animal Hospitals in San Mateo, Concord, and Dublin) where she further refined her clinical skills. As an ER vet she treated countless cats suffering from painful, life threatening urinary blockages that were often correlated with stressful events that occurred at home. Even at 2 AM she found great reward in educating clients about the behavioral aspects of their cat's medical conditions! She began to recognize an immense potential to prevent suffering (and even save lives) by helping people better understand and manage their cat's behavioral needs.
Upon relocating to Seattle, she redirected her career focus, founding One Purr Away in 2015.
In 2024 she completed the ISFM Advanced Feline Behavior For Veterinary Professionals (a two year course). Dr. Dunn holds an Advanced Certificate in Feline Behavior (with distinction) from The International Society Of Feline Medicine.
In her free time Dr. Dunn has volunteered as a surgeon for the Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project in Lynnwood, Washington.
She is an active member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Her feline family currently includes (brothers) Duke and Earl.
